Mexico: Women's Center Renovation

San Pancho (aka San Francisco, Nayarit), Mexico

Mexico: Women's Center Renovation

Registration Fee:
$150

San Pancho has an old world charm and supports a culture of artists, musicians, and more. With walkable cobbled streets and access to the beach, this is a special place. Part of this community is their Mujeres que Crean (Creative Women’s Group), a collective that promotes social development, personal growth and vocational skill-building for the women in San Pancho and surrounding communities. The community has identified the need to renovate their community space to allow for more women to benefit from the program. It consists of women with low-economic resources, who for personal reasons are not able to work full-time outside of the home. Within the women’s group they learn a trade and are then able to create products for sale.

Surf For Life funds help support the completion of the women’s center. Volunteers will work side-by-side with community members to paint, decorate, and add the final touches to the center. Volunteer families will also have the opportunity to engage with local youth during their classes and extracurricular programs.

About Mexico

Mexico is a diverse country of natural beauty that includes the surfable beaches of the Pacific, the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, mountain cloud forests, dormant volcanoes and more! Mexico’s pre-Hispanic civilizations built some of the world's great archaeological monuments including pyramids and Mayan temples. The Spanish colonial era produced towns of shaded plazas, sculpted buildings and churches, and then led to the rise of great art!

Our project takes us to the town of San Pancho, a picturesque, rural beach town just an hour’s drive north of Puerto Vallarta, surrounded by jungle, along a palm-lined beach. Located along the Pacific Coast, it is an ideal location for those who want to surf, or just enjoy the beach and colorful artistic surroundings.
