Mexico: Women's Center Renovation

Registration Fee:
$150

Minimum Fundraising Commitment: $2,500 including $150 non-refundable deposit

Each week needs 5 volunteers to run the trip.

San Pancho is a picturesque, rural beach town just an hour’s drive north of Puerto Vallarta, surrounded by jungle, along a palm-lined beach. The community has identified the need to renovate their community space to allow for more women to benefit from their Mujeres que Crean (Creative Women’s Group, a collective that promotes social development, personal growth and vocational skill-building for the women in San Pancho and surrounding communities.

The members of this program consist of women with low-economic resources, who for personal reasons are not able to work full-time outside of the home. Within the women’s group they learn a trade and are then able to create products for sale. This project would allow more women to benefit from the program and teach more trades such as screen printing and glass cutting. To meet this goal, they need the resources and help from Surf For Life volunteers to rebuild the roof and more.

Community and Project Description:

San Pancho is a small town community ready to help support the completion of this project. In collaboration with our community partner, Entreamigos, this project will renovate their community space to allow for more women to benefit from their Mujeres que Crean (Creative Women’s Group,  a collective that promotes social development, personal growth and vocational skill-building for the women in San Pancho and surrounding communities.

The members of this program consists of women with low-economic resources, who for personal reasons are not able to work full-time outside of the home. Within the women’s group they learn a trade such as paper bead making. The women receive the materials and are taught the skills to create products on their own time. The products are purchased and sold in the community gallery.  They are able to earn an income to support their families while being able to care for their children, both at Entreamigos and in the comfort of their own home. The project will expand the women’s group to allow more women to benefit from the program and to teach them more trades such as screen printing and glass cutting. To meet this goal, the space needs renovation including roof repairs and more.
